What is the origin of the May Crosses?
The May Crosses have roots going back to the 20th century, although some historians suggest a pre-Christian origin adapted by Christianity.
Officially, they are associated with 3 May, the day on which Saint Helena discovered the Vera Cruz in the year 326.
In Córdoba, the competition began in 1953, when the crosses left the courtyards to compete in public squares, marking the beginning of a tradition that has lasted until today.

The Battle of Flowers: The highlight of the May Crosses
On Sunday 4th May, the May Crosses share the limelight with the Battle of the Flowers, a vibrant parade through the streets of Cordoba.
