Discover the rich history of the May Crosses in Cordoba, a tradition that began in the early 20th century.
The celebration of the May Crosses in Cordoba dates back to the dawn of the 20th century and has become a popular event.
Initially, this event served to celebrate the arrival of spring and merge with the religious traditions of the community.
During the first decades, the crosses were mainly exhibited inside the courtyards, but in 1953, the tradition was given a new impetus when a competition began to be organised to encourage competition among the participants.
Since then, the event has become increasingly popular and the Cordoba City Council took over the organisation in 1954, establishing the contest as an independent celebration that continues to this day, attracting Cordobeses and visitors every year to admire the beauty and care of the decorated crosses.
